Why does sending a roulette deposit on the wrong network lose the coins?

A deposit sent on the wrong network lands at an address the casino may not control, on a chain its deposit monitor is not watching, and the coins sit there until someone with the right key moves them. Whether that key exists decides whether the deposit is lost or merely delayed. The address is only half of a destination. The network is the other half, and a wallet will happily send to a valid address on a chain that the casino never listed.

Five cases cover almost every wrong-network deposit made to roulette games with crypto cashiers, and they range from a same-day fix to a permanent loss.

• Same coin, two chains that share an address format.

What happened – You sent USDT on Ethereum to the casino’s USDT address on Polygon, or the reverse. Ethereum, Polygon, and the other EVM chains use the same address format, so the wallet accepted it. The coins arrived at the same address on the other chain.

Recoverable – Usually. The casino’s key for that address works on both chains. Support can sweep the coins on the chain they landed on, though the sweep costs the casino a fee, and some sites charge for it. Expect a ticket and one to seven days.

• Same coin, chains with different address formats.

What happened – You tried to send Bitcoin to a Litecoin address, or Ether to a Solana address. The wallet rejected the address as invalid before sending.

Recoverable – Nothing to recover. The transaction was never made.

• A fork coin sent to the parent coin’s address.

What happened – Bitcoin cash sent to a Bitcoin legacy address, which the Bitcoin Cash network accepts. The coins are on the Bitcoin Cash chain at an address the casino uses for Bitcoin.

Recoverable – Sometimes. If the casino’s bitcoin key can sign on the bitcoin cash chain, support can recover it, and some sites have a procedure for exactly this. Sites without one will decline.

• Coins sent to a token contract address.

What happened – You copied the contract address of a token from an explorer instead of the casino’s deposit address and sent it to the contract itself. The contract has no owner key and no function to send coins back out.

Recoverable – No. Nobody holds a key that can move them. This is the one permanent loss on the list, and it is why cashiers warn against copying addresses from anywhere but the deposit page.

• A token sent on a chain that the casino lists the coin on, but to an old or expired address.

What happened – You reused a deposit address from months ago that the casino has since rotated out. The coins arrived at an address the casino still controls but no longer monitors.

Recoverable – Yes, with a ticket. The key exists, and the monitor can be pointed at the address. Sites usually credit within a day.

Three checks stop all five. Copy the address from the live deposit page every time. Match the network name in your wallet’s send screen to the network name on the deposit page, word for word. And for a first deposit on a new coin or chain, send a small test amount and wait for it to be credited before sending the rest. The coins in cases one, three and five come back because a key exists. The coins in case four do not, and the ten seconds spent reading the network name is what keeps you out of it.
